Alona - Wood and Bio Acetate Sunglasses
Round-shaped hybrid frame that pulls together the best of two materials. Vegan bio acetate for the front, walnut wood for the legs. The result reads soft, considered, and slightly different from any single-material frame in the JOPLINS range.
Available in Brown Tortoise or Black. The tortoise plays warm against skin tone and pairs with a resort palette. The black reads sharper for city wear and evening. Both come with brown or black lens options depending on colorway. The wood legs mean each pair carries slightly different grain character, since no two slices of walnut are identical.
Nine-layer lens construction gives the Alona serious optical performance. Two layers of scratch resistance, two layers of shock resistance, four layers of UV400 protection, and one polarizing layer. The result is a lens that handles daily wear without micro-scratching, resists impact without shattering, and cuts glare off water and glass without darkening what you want to see.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Alona different from the other JOPLINS frames?
Alona is the hybrid: bio acetate frame front paired with walnut wood legs. Marley, Moon, and Stinson are all-wood. Peniche is all bio acetate. Alona sits between them and delivers characteristics of both materials in one frame.
What does the 9-layer lens actually do?
Nine layers of specialized coating and material provide scratch resistance, shock resistance, UV400 protection, and polarization all in one lens. Practical result: sharper optical performance, longer lens life, better glare cutting than a standard single-layer polarized lens.
Is the acetate really vegan?
Yes. Bio acetate is derived from plant material (typically cotton or wood pulp) rather than petroleum, and contains no animal-derived components.
Are they safe on the water?
Yes. Polarized lenses cut water glare, and the 9-layer construction is designed for durability. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater exposure to preserve the walnut wood legs.
Which colorway should I choose?
Brown Tortoise reads warmer and pairs well with earth-toned or resort palettes. Black reads sharper and works with almost any wardrobe. Personal preference and skin tone.
